Bluegill Now Owned and Operated by Cooper Restaurants |
|
We'd like to announce that the Bluegill Restaurant was purchased Monday by Cooper Restaurants Inc., which
owns Felix's Fish Camp Grill and Ruth's Chris Steak House.
We will continue to operate as The Bluegill, and the Cooper staff has already started
refurbishing the interior and training the existing staff.
The Bluegill's menu, prices, hours of operation and the entertainment on Tuesday and Sunday nights will remain the same. We'll have an official grand re-opening on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14,
and The Tip Tops will entertain from 5 to 9:30 p.m.
Former owner, Harry Johnson, bought the
restaurant in 1998 from the original owners' daughter, Sandra Weekley.
Her parents, Wallace and Evelyn Johnston, ran the seafood restaurant
for 40 years until they passed away. The restaurant was
destroyed by Hurricane Frederic in 1979. The rebuilt eatery was
severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and reopened in 2006.
Johnson
plans to open Rosie's Grill in a building he owns at the Market Place
Center on U.S. 98 in Daphne, in early June. "I wanted to do something
smaller and go back to my roots. Rosie's will be an updated version of
my Fairhope restaurant, Winslow's Café, which I operated from 1980 to
1997."
We'd like to thank Harry for all he's done, and wish him the best of luck in his new endeavor at Rosie's Grill!

Color the Coast will be playing the Bluegill on February 12th! |
|
At the age of 16, lead vocalist and guitarist Nick Chamblee began playing under the name Color the Coast. Over the next four years Nick recruited three longtime friends and schoolmates to join the band. Matt Arensberg (drums/vocals), Kyle Coffey (bass/vocals), and Kyle Duncan (lead guitar/piano/vocals) rounded out the lineup that would become Color the Coast for the next two years.
The Mobile, Alabama band released its debut CD Unplug and Run in November 2007 and began supporting the release by playing gigs in the Southeast, from Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Birmingham, Alabama and as far away as Jacksonville, Florida. Color the Coast played the Launching Pad Stage at Bayfest 2008 and is now sharing the Pepsi Stage at Bayfest 2009 with national acts such as Stone Temple Pilots, Cage the Elephant, 3 Doors Down, Jessie James, T-Pain and Akon.
In July 2009, Carey Dekle, a solo singer / songwriter with local success of her own officially joined the band after several years of playing with Color the Coast around the area. With the addition of Carey on piano and sharing lead vocal duties with Nick, Color the Coast is poised to succeed on a national level.
Color the Coast is currently writing and recording their sophomore follow-up album which is scheduled for release in the spring of 2010.

Grayson Capps Band Performing on Februrary 13th |
|
New Orleans native Grayson Capps has a name that could only belong to a musician and a voice straight out of the backstreets of The Big Easy. Grayson and his music instantly evoke the swamp folk-soul made popular by artists like Tony Joe White.
While there is a danger today of putting out music that can easily become merely background noise, Capps' music is a welcome departure. Described as "pure blue-collar backroom blues and folk, spiced with that unique Louisiana sound that combines modern lyrics with traditional melodies." his music grabs hold of it's listeners and doesn't let go. Try as you might to go about your business, you just can't help but stop and give a listen.
With tracks like Graveyard and Hows I To Know? Grayson's music speaks about heartbreak and loneliness without the maudlin self-pitty of many songwriters, and his guitar playing is absolutely perfect, going from a quiet whisper to a defiant roar as the songs' intensity builds.
Grayson has an eclectic resume in addition to his musical talents, including an appearance in the Shainee Gabel documentary Anthem, which eventually led to his fathers unpublished novel being turned into the motion picture, A Love Song For Bobby Long. Grayson had a cameo and wrote four songs for the soundtrack.
